Me and photographer Joey L (www.joeyl.com) are finally excited to announce the release of our upcoming tutorial DVD "Photographer Shoot-Off: Lara Jade VS Joey L" that will be released on December 1st!

With this collaborative project, we decided to re-visit our roots and document the idea of a photographer's vision. The DVD content features exclusive behind-the-scenes shoots with interviews, technical information, in-depth Photoshop lessons and also business  tips within the fashion and advertising industry. Our main goal throughout the two years of building the content was to create an educational DVD that will leave you wanting to try our our techniques in your own shoots.

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone has had a beautiful and productive summer!

Just to let you all know I have taken down most of my older gallery (it hasn't been deleted, just in scraps) in case some of you were wondering where the submissions disappeared too. My photographic style has taken on a different light and out of respect for future clients and the way in which I want to progress I don't think it was best to keep them up online at this point.

I am not going to be posting on DeviantART as much anymore but I'd like to keep my work up here as it has been a great experience for me and very much something that has helped hone my photographic style. I want to thank you for your continued support and I do hope you all follow my work on my other social media channels and through my website.

As much as I would love to keep up with all social networks and update everything I just no longer have the time to be spending a few hours a day updating my websites! So this morning my friend messaged me to tell me he'd received a notification telling him it was my seventh birthday here. Immediately it brought back memories of how I first started and who I was seven years ago - I was a teenage 'artist' trying to express my thoughts and emotions through art and a very inexperienced one at that!

I am grateful that DeviantART was the first place I chose to place my art and through all the constructive criticism and you the support you followers initially showed me it made me want to continue experimenting and want to continue my journey to be a professional fashion photographer.
I can finally say seven years later that I am now living that dream I so long ago set out for and I wanted to say thank you to you all for pushing me want to strive to be a better photographer on each image I posted.

I apologize one again for the lack of update here. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you that continue to support and follow my work. This is where it all started for me on DeviantART and has helped me where I am today!

A brief update of where I am - I am loving life. Lots of positive things keep coming my way. I fully booked out three of my workshops, I am working on some wonderful projects and assignments for my London agent, I am working on a lot of personal assignments for my portfolio, my love is coming over from America and I am leaving to NYC in January. I feel very priveledged to be living this way and cannot wait to see what 2011 brings already!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS

'Lara Jade's workshops are designed to teach the individual photographer (whether you are beginning, an amateur or a professional in the industry) how to go about completing a fashion photo shoot from start to finish.'

On the day we will cover everything from organizing and meeting your team, setting up the photo shoot, lighting techniques, a quick brief on working on location, I will also give you my background and my knowledge on the industry thus far and you as as the photographer will have your own opportunity to take the lead and photograph yourself with my guidance along the way. There will also be time for debriefing after wards and portfolio/industry advice.
We will have a fantastic space to shoot in, an experienced fashion team (make up, hair, stylists, assistants) and I will be treating the workshop like it was one of my own commissioned jobs.

So, most of you that follow my social media sites or know me from twitter will already know about this. However, I just wanted to share the wonderful news with many out there that I FINALLY (after over three years of waiting) won the case with TVX.

To those of you that remember. TVX were a company that took an image of me and placed it on a pornographic DVD. The picture was nothing to do with the theme or porn whatsoever, and the fact I was fourteen in the image annoyed me even more so. I found the image at the age of seventeen when someone informed me on DeviantART it had been stolen. I had NO idea that my work was being used in this way. Obviously, as photographers using the internet, we often get people stealing our work – but not to something of this extent. I was tired of people walking over me in this situation, so I decided to take legal action. It wasn't long until I got abusive and mean messages back from the owner of the company TVX (who distribute the covers) and I realized this wasn't something I could walk away from – this wasn't going to be an easy situation to solve.
Eventually, the case was taken on by a wonderful lawyer in Florida – Mr Richard Harrison of Allen Dell PA. He has stood by me ever since first finding the image and put a lot of hard work and his spare time towards helping me with this case. I was enlightened to hear a few months back that the case was finally going to court and we'd get an answer. So, in July (whilst on my NYC trip for two months) I went to Tampa, Florida to try and put an end to this story. Considering how far I'd moved on with my career and how long it had taken the court case to go through, I can honestly say I was so glad to stand up for myself in court and prove to everyone I wasn't just 'a girl that had her picture stolen for a pornographic DVD' but I'd established a successful career in photography and I hoped that fighting this case would give inspiration to many other young (and older!) photographer's out there that copyright IS an issue. You can't just go and steal an image that doesn't belong to you and use it for commercial gain – if you're going to steal images online then people WILL find out and they CAN sue you!

So here I am at the (almost) end of the road, I have won the case against TVX and I hope to be a voice to many photographers out there and to tell you to stand up for yourselves over copyright issues. Remember to be wise about where you upload your images, the size you upload them and be smart about the steps you can take towards finding legal help when you've found your image being used inappropriately.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people that have supported me throughout this, through blog posts and emails offering advice and help initially until now.

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotion, a roller coaster constantly on highs and dropping to lows before speeding up to the highest point again. I have to admit this ride comes with the job – and during the first few years of any photographers career the majority of the ride will be at the low, waiting on good news to come in, a mixture of wondering when and where your next job is, extreme self critique, late nights frustrated over retouching images and a wanting to always be better at your skill.

I have been traveling non stop this week. I had to return to London to shoot a pitch for a potential ad campaign with a clothing company. My agent phoned me a few days before and luckily it slotted into my schedule – but very tightly. So I've been flying to and from London over three days and now running on two hours sleep waiting for my flight to Charlottetown, Canada to shoot for a client. No matter how jet lagged I am and how much I want to throw the towel in right now – I am in love with what I do and no amount of exhaustion could pry me from it.

I am also happy to admit to myself I finally know what I want from life and in the next months I can reveal all. It feels good to know I am finally on the right path and things are going my way. So at the moment I am happy to see where life takes me – and hopefully I'll continue on the high road for a while!

Back in my favorite place - NYC.
Only for the next two weeks but I plan one day (hopefully sometime in the near future) my permanent base.
I am back for meetings and plenty of shoots - for magazine submission and personal work. So nothing to show you guys just yet but there will be plenty of new updates and eyecandy for you to view over the next few weeks.

My summer adventure awaits me...
I am leaving for the US for just over a month from Tuesday next week, I can't tell you how excited I am to be back in NYC and traveling to Florida for a week, too! I have so many ideas, so many people to meet, my 21st birthday to celebrate. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to travel and the friends I have over there. At the start of the year I told myself I would travel and experience different places - this is the third time I have been over to NYC and I can't get enough of it!
I can't wait to get out in the city in the summer sun, chill with friends, shoot, collaborate, test video projects and enjoy life. I can't believe how much 2010 has changed me as a person so far.
